“ In short. Food is exceptional. But the experience was a little let down by a very rushed 6 course menu with paired wines…not giving us enough time to savour it all. We opted for the 6 course tasting menu and the matching wines. We were seated at the bar, which I know many people love…but I’m too short for bar tables. But we managed. Heads up, if you’re short like me…make a point of asking for non bar in your booking. Otherwise the bar experience is lovely because you do have a front view of the chefs and bbq. The restaurant ambience is beautiful. Warm tones. Open chef area where you get to watch food prep and cooking. Beautiful leather trimmings in the bar. It’s fab. The service is wonderful. Everyone was helpful, kind, informative. They didn’t miss a beat. The food was sooo good. As I mentioned, we enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu and every course was perfect. Even the palate cleanser before dessert was yum. We also enjoyed the matching wines and the paired wines were unique and interesting. Enjoyed every single one of them. Every dish has its own type of smokiness that enhances the flavours. Each dish I would wish I had more of it. I was sooo full that the end of the meal. My only downside is the 2.5 hours is NOT enough for a 6 course meal with matching wines. We found ourselves feeling rushed throughout the whole night. Constantly having to down the last of the previous wine as the next wine and meal arrived. I think the 2 - 2.5 hour sitting works if you’re not matching the wines or if you are having the smaller menu. But we definitely felt rushed. I understand that the restaurant needs to have an additional seating … but this did impact an otherwise beautiful night. Not sure if it is a better experience if you take the later booking or not. We had a 6pm booking… and we had seventeen the 6 course on the actual booking. Oh! And a lovely touch at the end of the night! We received a roasted marshmallow and a candle for one of us who had their birthday recently. Very sweet. ”

“ Absolutely loved our experience at Firedoor! The food was outstanding — every dish cooked over fire had such depth and flavor. The atmosphere was warm and intimate, and the service was top-notch: friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive without being overbearing. “ The steak is definitely 5 stars and only steak. Probably the best I have ever had. Requiring no sauce and just salt perfectly highlight and shifting the focus on the flavor of the dry-aged beef. 4-stars because maybe the beef is too good that it outshines the other dishes and that we can’t just get the services attention and didn’t explain menu and just have to ask like twice if they have more food outside of the menu: one before the set menu when the waiter just walked away and never come back and one during the service which she came back. Also, we weren’t given the option to just buy steak or more steak in more cut of beef. The lamb is on par with beef but they did use lots of condiments and sauces to bring out the flavor of the lamb. ”

Having eaten a lot of wagyu over the years, I can truly say this was the best I’ve ever had and sitting at the bar watching it being prepared was amazing. The way the meat was prepared let the flavour speak for itself – no sauces, condiments, or extras were needed. It was absolute perfection and a real reminder that quality ingredients, cooked with care, are all you need. The service was just as impressive. “ We drove from Melbourne especially for this meal for a special celebration. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed with a happy anniversary... the waiters were super attentive, the food magnificent the atmosphere lovely! They knew our dietary requirements and even asked if our under 18s wanted a different dessert due to the dessert having cooked off alcohol. Even the cutlery and glassware were, beautiful and an experience in themselves! The attention to detail was impressive! Each dish was explained, each wine a brief history, everyone was so knowledgeable, professional and pleasant. We got to meet Lennox who was such a gentleman and so humble. We even got to have a photo in the kitchen. You could see and hear everything as it was being prepared. Was the perfect night! Highly recommend as a special meal! Would recommend if you can get a spot at the counter, do it, you will get a different experience again! My only disappointment was the marron with finger lime wasn't on the menu, but will just have to come back when it is!! Could not fault anything! “ Firedoor Firedoor is one of those rare restaurants that manages to live up to its considerable reputation. From the first bite to the final charred marshmallow, the chef’s menu delivered a memorable journey through fire-kissed flavours. The coral trout, while perfectly cooked with a delicate smokiness, felt like it was missing a partner on the plate — perhaps a sauce to coax it from “delicious” to “outstanding.” The dry-aged steak, on the other hand, needs no introduction. Quite simply, it’s one of the best steaks I’ve ever had — and given my extensive “research” into steak consumption, that’s saying something. Dessert brought a smile: a playful charred marshmallow that reminded me fine dining doesn’t always have to take itself too seriously. That sense of balance is echoed in the restaurant’s atmosphere: polished and refined but never stiff, with the crackle of open-fire cooking keeping things grounded and warm. Service is attentive and professional, though perhaps a touch too rehearsed in its delivery. A little more personality from the waitstaff would elevate the storytelling of each dish — after all, food this good deserves a script that’s less Shakespearean monologue, more friendly banter. Overall, Firedoor is an experience worth seeking out. It’s equal parts theatre, craftsmanship, and comfort, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone who enjoys food that is as memorable as it is masterfully cooked. Just be prepared to leave already planning your next visit. ”
